The Plan

The AT&T Prepaid program is called GoPhone. Customers are required to purchase a GoPhone from AT&T or an authorized dealer. Programs are available on a Pay as You Go or Prepaid basis without a credit check or contract. You can add minutes or refill your account from the AT&T website in addition to signing up for online account access to track your usage.

Cost, Rates, & Fees

AT&T Prepaid customers can choose from four different payment packages. If you are using a smartphone, you will need to purchase the unlimited plan as smartphones are not eligible for pay per use data plans.

  • 10 Cents / Minute Plan: There is no charge for the 10 cents per minute rate plan from AT&T Prepaid. The plan allows GoPhone users to pay for each call, text message and bit of data they use. Customers will pay 10 cents per minute of talk time, 20 cents per text message in the United States and 1 cent per 5 KB of data. There are text message and data packages available for customers with heavy text and data usage.
  • $2 Daily Unlimited Plan: If you only use your phone occasionally, the $2 per day unlimited plan may be your best bet. Your account must be funded with at least $2 per day to use this plan. Once a call is made or received or a text message is sent, the $2 is deducted from your account. For the next 24 hours, you have unlimited calling and text messages, but data will still be charged at a rate of 1 cent per 5 KB.
  • $25 Monthly Plan: For $25 a month, customers receive 250 minutes and unlimited text messages in the United States. You will still be charged the 1 cent per 5 KB of data if you don’t have a data plan.
  • $50 Unlimited: Smartphone users and heavy phone users may wish to opt for the $50 Unlimited Plan from AT&T Prepaid. You receive free calling, text messages and data for the entire month.

User Review Summaries

Customer service complaints against AT&T Prepaid are focused on two aspects of the service – refunds and coverage. According to some customers, coverage is spotting in some areas, but that can be said of all cell phone service. Refunds are also not provided if a customer cancels their GoPhone so if there is credit on the account that credit is forfeited.
