Virgin PrePaid Mobile

The Plan

Virgin Prepaid is a no contract mobile phone plan offered by Virgin Mobile. All phones are powered on the Sprint Mobile network, but the network does not appear to be owned or operated with any connection to Sprint. Customers have been choosing Virgin Prepaid no contract plans since 2002.

Cost, Rates, & Fees

Virgin Prepaid offers three rate plans for customers who want to message and surf the web without limitations. The only difference between the plans is the total talk minutes allowed each month.

  • Beyond Talk $35: The $35 plan offered by Virgin Prepaid allows users unlimited messaging and data, but only 300 talk minutes are allowed each month.
  • Beyond Talk $45: For just $10 more, Virgin Prepaid customers can up total talk minutes from 300 to 1,200.
  • Beyond Talk $55: Tired of having limitations placed on talk minutes, data and messaging? The Beyond Talk $55 plan allows you to talk, text and surf to your heart’s content each month without overage charges.

User Review Summaries

Virgin Prepaid is one of those companies that offer customers the same coverage as other mobile companies for more than half the price, in some cases. Customer reviews are exceedingly positive, especially since Virgin Prepaid chose to add Android phones to the line-up.

The only negative reviews we found were focused on expiring minutes and data speeds. At the end of the month, all unused minutes expire so there is no rollover option like other mobile companies. Also, the unlimited data is actually limited, to a point. Virgin Prepaid customers who use more than 2.5 GB of data in a month will notice their data speeds slow down after they reach the 2.5 GB level.

Service Coverage

The service coverage area for Virgin Prepaid is not the best. We noticed the majority of voice and data coverage focused on larger US cities. Major city coverage is available primarily east of the Mississippi. The same goes for data coverage. Large cities in the west like Las Vegas, Phoenix and San Francisco are covered – in addition to other major cities. However, move even slightly outside of these major cities and coverage is lost. All data is run on a 3G network. Virgin Prepaid does not have a 4G network like other companies.
